Hello! I’m Melissa Hooper, registered dietitian/nutritionist, and I’m so excited to be starting my Bite-Size Nutrition Blog!!! Along with re-launching my website, I decided it was time to join the bloggers as I’m very passionate about nutrition, helping people create healthier lives through sound, scientifically-based nutrition, and developing creative ways to help companies promote and market nutrition in ways that consumers can understand and make healthier choices.
I’ve been in the field of nutrition for over twenty years now, and have had some wonderful experiences. I’ve taught various types of nutrition classes, including weight loss, supermarket tours, healthy dining-out, recipe modification, nutrition during pregnancy, as well as disease-specific classes for cardiac rehab, diabetes, cancer support and pulmonary rehab. I’ve worked in a clinical setting in a teaching hospital on the post-cardiac/thoracic surgery floor and on the floor for patients with congestive heart disease and post-heart attacks.
I thoroughly enjoyed my role as a media spokesperson for the Dairy Council, conducting on-air live & pre-taped T.V. interviews, radio talk shows and print interviews, as well as working with the medical communities to promote good nutrition. I was honored and excited to have been the dietitian for Stater Bros. Markets’ consumer health and wellness program called Healthy Selections, and to have developed the program, moving it from the red to the black.
Dabbling in and out of independent work as a consultant, I created Bite-Size Nutrition in 2009. Prior, I had my own segment on the Good Day Tulsa Show, called The Easy Living Segment that I hosted and co-produced. Later, I pursued the opportunity to consult with Clear Channel Radio’s KOST 103.5fm and HOT 92.3fm to create an on-air program. I worked with the Chilean Citrus Fruit Association to write press releases, Voskos Greek Yogurt to write consumer blogs and press release kits and provided presentations for Glen Ivy Spa and various community groups.
But, now…I’m super excited to be re-launching Bite-Size Nutrition!! I’m looking forward to sharing “bite-size” information that’s fun and easy to implement that may potentially have life-impacting results for individuals, as well as positive results for companies. It is my calling in life to help people have the highest quality of life through their food and nutrition.
I hope you’ll join me on the journey!
